EJC IS TEN YEARS YOUNG - April 2013
On Tuesday 9th April 2013, almost 60 EJC members came together teo celebrate our tenth anniversary. We chose to spend our evening at Monty's in Ealing again and were not disappointed. We had great food, great company and lots of sharing memories from the last decade.

It was a special treat to have the Mayor of Ealing join us for the evening and he read a lovely speech about some of our achievements within the community, since we opened our doors back in 2003.
Thanks to Simon and Jane (Head Coach Jo's brother and his wife) for the lovely, unexpected cake, enjoyed by everyone at the close of the event. Also, huge thanks to Belinda for organising the evening and helping it all to run so smoothly. We are a very close little family club and evidence of everyone's effort was present throughout the meal, as it has been throughout the last ten years. Here's to the next ten!

MAKI TSUKADA VISITS EJC - 5th December 2012
Japan's Olympic and World Champion, Maki Tsukada visited EJC on 5th December 2012. Maki participated in the sessions and has vowed to come back and teach some of her best loved techniques in the new year. Many of our young members had the opportunity to participate in randori with Maki, who worked with each young athlete in a fun and open way. We are very much looking forward to her return in the Spring of 2013.
COACH REVALIDATION COURSE - 4th November 2012
On Sunday 4th November Ealing Judo Club hosted a fun and informative coach revalidation event, delivered by British Champion & GB International Nadia Minardi. We were treated to a variety of strength and conditioning exercises and games, most of which were new to many coaches in attendance. Twenty-three coaches came along to revalidate and were pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the event.

The London Borough of Ealing invited EJC members to attend the Ealing Olympic Civic Reception at Ealing Town Hall, to recognise the efforts of Ealing sportspeople in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. SUCCESS AT THE BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS - October 2012
We are very proud of our talented young athletes for their excellent performances at the October 2012 British Championships, held in Sheffield. They pulled off a lifetime best achievement for EJC, with the club taking 7 medals and placing 5th on the overall medal table. 86 clubs won medals, with more competing with out the reward of a rostrum spot.
Huge congratulations to this group of athletes: Mason Gulaidi-Barber, Eliot Bradford, Harkirat Sekhon, Julia Scardone, Nekoda Davis, Daniel Woodhouse and Lucy Chamberlain. Their continued hard work and positive attitude towards their own development has been the key to their success.
Many thanks to the rest of the fighting team, the parents, the volunteers and all other guests, visitors and well-wishers; your support has been very much appreciated.

EJC was very happy to host a class for Marie Muller, Olympian from Luxembourg. Marie joined us for our regular senior class as part of her final preparations for the London Olympic Games.
WORLD CHAMPION DELIVERS MASTERCLASS AT EJC
On Sunday 24th June 2012 we were very lucky, at EJC, to have to opportunity to work with renowned World Champion and former GB National Coach, Loretta Cusack-Doyle. Loretta was World Champion in 1982 in Paris and has always sought to help develop others towards their goals since that time. Visitors from Camberley, Crofton and Osterley Judo Clubs were also present and remarked on how open and down-to-Earth Loretta was with all of the children. We hope to repeat this event in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled for info!
NEKODA EDGING TOWARDS EUROPEAN TOP SPOT
Exciting times for Nekoda and EJC, as following Nekoda's two gold medals in recent Junior European Cups (in Italy and Lithuania) Nekoda is now ranked number 3 in Europe. This is an outstanding achievement and all at the club congratulate her. She works so hard and deserves all the praise she receives.
9th ANNIVERSARY MEAL & FUNDRAISER
In April 2012 EJC turned 9 - 9 years of wonderfulness! So we celebrated in style under Monty's roof, a lovely Nepalese restaurant in Ealing. The owner did us a gret deal in order to contribute to our premises fund and 35 club members came along for food and fun... and of course, the raffle. The evening raised £516. Thanks to everyone who came along or otherwise supported the event and special thanks to Belinda for organising the whole evening. We were also very lucky to have Councillors Mann with us, the former Mayor of Ealing and his wife. They have been supporters of the club for some time. I can't wait for our ten year celebrations...
CHRISTMAS PARTY AND ANNUAL AWARDS EVENING
On Tuesday 20th December 2011 EJC came together at a lovely venue, The Lord Nelson, in Brentford for a lovely evening of celebration. Over 60 club members arrived for food, fun and of course the annual awards. EJC would like to say a big thank you to our friendly pub landlord for hosting the event for us and also to the Bojats for providing the lights and music... again. Our next social night will be the anniversary dinner in April, keep your eyes peeled for details.
JO SNAPPED UP BY LOCOG FOR OUR OLYMPICS
Earlier this year Jo applied for a position within LOCOG to be a part of the team running the London 2012 Olympic Judo event and she was successful. She will take up her position for the test event in December 2011 and then work through until after the Paralympic Games in September 2012. It is a great opportunity and we look forward to sharing Jo's news and stories over the next 10 months.
EJC TOPS 60 NATIONAL MEDALS
On Sunday 9th October 9 year old Sofija Bojat became our youngest ever British National medallist, winning a bronze medal in the largest of the girls groups (u32kg), in Nottingham, at the British Championships for those born in 2000-2001.
Then on the weekend of 15th/16th October at Ice Sheffield, our more experienced players took to the mat at the British Championships for u15s, u17s and u20s. In the u15 age band Blake Inniss won his first national medal, a silver, in the u55kg boys group. Young Mason Gulaidi-Barber won a bronze to add to his gold from last year (in the younger division). It was a huge step up for him but he put in an excellent performance to win this rostrum spot. Then in the u17 age band Eliot Bradford consolidated his performance of the last couple of years, by winning a silver medal in the u90kg weight group. He is a continuous feature in the England Squad and later this month is travelling out to the Flanders Cup in Belgium, to represent his country.
These 4 medals take EJCs total number of National medals to 61! Wow! Well done to the whole team, medal or no medal, each person was valuable and provided superb support to their team mates. Thanks to our club parents for their patient, loud support too. Xx
DAN GRADES EVERWHERE!
In September and October of 2011 EJC had a black belt boom, with Harkirat, Conor, Daniel W, Lukasz and Ndu all earning this accolade. It is an outstanding achievement for these hardworking individuals and also for the club as a whole. We are very proud of their accomplishment.
RECYCLING & FUNDRAISING - September 2011
Throughout the Summer holidays EJC members collected and hoarded all manner of textiles for a recycling and fundraising effort. The 'Bag2theFuture' Charity collected our offerings and in return gave us a lovely cheque for £180. Big thanks to Gill, Evelyne, Nekoda, little Ellis and Sally for their extra help. We are now collecting again for another go, booked in at Easter 2012. If you have unwanted linens, clothes, bags or shoes do save them for us. Thanks all.
WASPS COME TO EJC
Above: Wasps u16s with Jo, Harry Corrigan (Wasps coach) and Lee Shinkin.
In the last week of the Summer holidays Wasps u16s came along for a special training camp, to learn judo techniques that may enhance their rugby training. The boys were put through a rigorous week of falling techniques and body-weight exercises and ruck & maul training, led by Jo Crowley (Head EJC coach) and GB Internationals Lee Shinkin and Tom Davis. Father of our very own Conor is the Wasps u16 coach and he says this training has had an immediate and measurable effect on the team and that this sort of training will be employed again in the very near future. Thanks to Lee and Tom - their input was invaluable.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - August 2011
Willesden's Ashley McKenzie, student of Jo Crowley, competed in his 3rd Senior World Championships to date, this time in Paris. Jo travelled over to France to watch and to offer support. It was a great event and Ashley's two wins in the early rounds marked his best performance at this level. All at Ealing JC offer their congratulations to Ashley.
KATAME-NO-KATA COACH REVALIDATION EVENT
On Saturday 13th August EJC hosted a coach education event aimed at helping coaches deliver Katame-no-Kata (the groundwork kata) to their students. Kim Tilley and Ferdie Baronette kindly came along to teach and several London coaches as well as some players took part. It was a successful event and we hope to host another event before the end of the year.
On 14th September many of the group returned to take their katame-no-kata exam, with passes for Daniel V, Alaniese, Allegra, Nekoda and Sam. Well done gang.

2.7.11 - GB's Lee Shinkin led an EJC judo display and 'come and try' session at Brentford's Our Lady and St John's Primary School. They were given literature inviting them to participate in EJC's beginner-specific 2 day Summer course.

Lyam Quin has become our first member to earn his second Dan. At the Kent International tournament on 27th June 2010 Lyam won the final ten points needed to complete the grade requirements, his theory section was completed some months before. Very well done to Lyam who has worked hard to maintain and improve his skills base.
FUNDRAISING on HAVEN GREEN
On Saturday 24th July from 11:30am to 2pm Ealing Judo Club performed a fun-packed judo display on Haven Green in Ealing. We included a public open 'come and try' session and a sponsored throwing event, both of which were successful. We are hoping this event will kickstart our efforts to raise much needed funds towards a new club vehicle to transport our players to training camps and competitions. We will also be donating a portion of the money reaised to the West London Sports Trust - they are a fantastic organisation donationg money to young athletes who are struggling to fund their sporting careers.
From bucket-shaking on the day we managed to raise £152.23. The sponsor money is still coming in.

EJC SUMMER TRAINING CAMP, 10th - 14th August 2009
We had a fantastic week, with white to yellow belts all learning and training together. The 4 hours training a day was enjoyable, challenging and educational, including an aikido demonstration and quizzes. At the end of the week we ran a BBQ lunch and a training competition, which Pinewood and Willesden Judo Clubs came along to. Keep an eye out for next year's camp details.

MARCH 2009 - TONBRIDGE TRAINING CAMP
We had a ball this weekend, visiting Tonbridge Judo Club in Kent for a training weekend. We were looked after so well by the host club, fed like kings. There was outdoor training and of course lots of judo, includiing high quality randori. We hope to repeat this experience in the near future.
The event came about after the Head coaches at Ealing and Tonbridge realised, horror of horrors, that we had a free weekend...
OCTOBER 2008 - 5th ANNIVERSARY LUNCH
Despite our actual anniversary being back in April we didn't lose the chance to celebrate - almost 40 club members and parents got together for a slap up lunch at a local restaurant. Some of the money raised back in March, at our sponsored walk, was used to pay for the occasion and as you can see all had a good time. Time really flies; I can't believe our little club has already been running for 5 and a half years! Can't wait for the next 5!
NEW CLUB CAPTAINS
Rifqa and Rohan have duely been appointed EJC Club Captains for 2008/9. As you can see they are very happy with their new appointment!
Club Captain responsibilities include: orgaising social events for club members and helping younger members during the competition process.
I am sure that these two fine young fighters will do the club proud... Can't wait to hear about our first fun day!
SPONSORED WALK - MARCH 2008
On 24th March over thirty members of EJC took on a sponsored walk around Richmond Park to raise funds to be able to celebrate our 5th anniversary and to make a little money for the club. It was a snowy, rainy, windy, cold day, but the weather broke in perfect time to give us the hours we needed to complete the challenge. It was great fun to have members from all classes at the club joining in with one common goal. Thanks to everyone who came along and to those who couldn't make it, but donated sponsor money all the same.
